NORTH CRAWFORD - The North Crawford Cross Country Team traveled to Riverdale on Saturday, Oct. 12. Twenty Division 2 and Division 3 schools competed in the day’s five-kilometer races, which boast one of the flattest and fastest courses in the state.
The North Crawford girls team finished in 12th place, just five points behind Division 2 Viroqua. Also finishing ahead of the Trojans were Conference competitors, Kickapoo-LaFarge and River Ridge.
Leading the Trojans for top points was junior Helen Carstens, who finished seventh in a field of 127 girls with a time of 20:21. Finishing second for the Trojans was junior Kloee Chamberlain with a time of 23:42, 15 seconds faster than her previous best run. Other point-getters for the varsity girls team were freshman Emily Schmidt (24:22), freshman Lindsey Groom (27:20) and senior Katie Schellhorn (28:28). Other competitors were seniors Sonja Bangert (30:34) and Luisa Benck de Moraes (31:55).
The Trojan boy’s top point-getter was senior Carlos Lopez, who ran 22 minutes flat. Lopez dropped his p.r. by 20 seconds over his previous fastest race. Top runner Liam O’Brien was unable to run due to an injury. Other runners scoring points for the Trojans were seniors Sven Vale (25:31), Nassim Boukraa (27:02), and Viktor Sapunov (27:48), and sophomore Austin Puckett-Stanley (28:15). Other finishers were seniors Ping Pompim (30:40) and Jose Usina (31:49).
The Trojans will travel to Kickapoo on Thursday, Oct. 17 for the 2019 Ridge and Valley Conference Meet. Girls race at 4 p.m. and boys at 4:45 p.m.
