CenturyLink, Inc. announced that the majority of residential and business customers in the City of Platteville can now subscribe to CenturyLink Prism TV service as well as fiber-enabled broadband speeds up to 1 gigabit per second.

This technology provides customers with new TV functionality and features and access to some of the fastest broadband speeds in the U.S.

Customers can learn more about 1 gigabit and Prism TV services during an open house at the CenturyLink retail store, 135 N. Bonson St., Platteville, Thursday, July 16 from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Customers can check to see if they are eligible for these new services, see Prism TV demonstrations and enjoy food and prize giveaways.

CenturyLink completed a network construction project in Platteville to provide 1 Gbps fiber service, using fiber-to-the-premises technology, and upgrade the current Televideo TV service to Prism TV. This interactive TV service is delivered through CenturyLink’s advanced nationwide fiber optic network and provides customers with the latest in entertainment technology.

“We are committed to delivering innovative technology as a way to better serve our customers with high-quality, affordably-priced entertainment options,” said Bob Brown, CenturyLink vice president and general manager for Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota. “We are pleased to make this investment in our Platteville network to offer customers some of the fastest broadband speeds in Wisconsin, as well as an advanced TV service delivering a digital connection and a combination of interactive features.”

Speeds up to 1 Gbps, equivalent to 1,000 Mbps, allow users to stream high-definition video content with little to no delays and download movies, songs and TV shows in seconds. Customers who have multiple devices connected to one Internet connection in the home will have more than enough capacity and speed to support other uses of broadband such as online gaming, home automation, and increasingly important cloud services. Gigabit speeds will help small businesses increase productivity and efficiency while working in the cloud, sharing multimedia files, streaming video content and backing-up data in real-time.

Advanced features offered by Prism TV include a wireless set-top box, whole-home DVR, a mobile app for watching programming at home or on the go, an extensive video on demand library and an app center for accessing social network sites. In addition, Prism TV offers a large selection of sports channels, including the NFL Network, Big Ten Network, Fox Sports North and SEC Network, as well as premium mobile content from HBO Go, Max Go, Starz Play and Showtime Anytime.

Residential customers can purchase 1 Gbps service for a monthly recurring charge of $79.95 with a 12-month term commitment and when bundled with additional, qualifying CenturyLink services, including Prism TV. In addition to speeds up to 1 Gbps, some customers may be eligible for speeds up to 40 and 100 Mbps. Customers should contact CenturyLink to see what speeds are available to them. They can also go to www.centurylink.com/gigabit to find out if broadband speeds up to 1 Gbps are available in their area.
