HyPro closes Whitewater plant

The parent company of one of Platteville’s larger employers is closing one of its facilities.

HyPro Inc. announced Thursday that it will be closing its facility in Whitewater Nov. 2 and consolidating its operations, with 62 Whitewater employees expected to lose their jobs.

HyPro still has six manufacturing facilities, including at 1000 Phillips Dr. in Platteville. Hypro has 155 Platteville employees, according to the Grant County Economic Development Corp.

The news came in a required state Department of Workforce Development Business Closing and Mass Layoff Notice.

HyPro provides precision machining, welding, assembly and contract manufacturing for on- and off-highway, engine, marine, aviation, military, industrial and wind energy customers.

In addition to Platteville, HyPro has plants in Berlin, Rhinelander and Waterford, as well as Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Vinita, Okla. Its corporate headquarters are in Waterford. The company’s seven plants have 700,000 square feet of manufacturing space, according to HyPro’s website.

Grant County Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Ron Brisbois reflected on his 25th year in the job Dec. 4 after the annual meeting of the corporation. Brisbois compared 2024 to his previous 24 years, as well as looked into what the future holds for the region.
