With all the numbers crunched, the city’s proposed revenue and expenditures for 2026 both came in at $2,905,765.

The tax levy amount of $1,027,677 was established on all the taxable property within the city based on 2025 assessments, for the uses and purposes set forth in the city budget.

The 2025 tax levy amount is higher than 2025’s amount which stood at $1,021,216.

The total tax base for the city in the year 2026 is $145,613,750, up from 2025’s amount of  $142,370, 350.

The rate per thousand for the City in 2026 based on the above numbers then would come out to $7.0575547.

With no public comment and everything “checking out,” the council voted unanimously to approve the upcoming year’s budget.

In other business, the council approved their annual agreement with Johnson Block CPA’s to conduct the city’s yearly audit.

Director of Pubic Works Anthony Downing in his report stated that streets/parks are continuing with leaf pickup and that the electrical department assisted at the library construction site, and also assisted with putting the trees in place at the railroad museum.

Fennimore Tree Board representative Margaret Sprague gave a brief tree board update including the board looking into making a three to five minute video promoting Oakwood Park to be shared on social media.

Sprague said they would look at either Southwest Tech or the school to assist. Alderperson Jonah Roth suggested the school could assist as they already produce video for their Eagle TV.

In other tree board business, the council approved to amend an ordinance under “boards, commissions, and agencies” to state that the Fennimore Tree Board “shall consist of up to eight members, with at least six members who are residents of the City of Fennimore and up to two members who are residents of the Fennimore School District.”

The council also agreed to “write up” a draft of an agreement between the city and the Marsden Park Trustees regarding park maintenance responsibilities.

The council hoped to have the draft ready for review at next month’s meeting.

The next and last council meeting of 2025 is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 15, at 5:30 p.m., in the council chambers of the Memorial Building.
