DARLINGTON – This year, the Cinco de Mayo Festival in Darlington turns 10! The festival, which is held on Saturday, May 13 from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m. at the City of Darlington Festival Grounds, will be filled with food, family, friends and fun.
Starting at a new time this year, the opening ceremony will start off the festivities at 11 a.m. with a performance by the DEMS Student Choir. Several food booths, arts, crafts, informational and merchandise booths will also open up shop for people to come and enjoy all they have to offer. There will be a soccer tournament beginning at 11 a.m. at Black Bridge Park. There will be much fun for the kids with inflatable rides, clown appearance and face painting at the festival grounds.
The talent show will begin at 12 p.m. and end at 2 p.m. so make sure to check out all the fantastic talent from around the area. After the talent show, a special performance by the Ballet Folkiorico Nacional of Milwaukee will be from 2-3 p.m. All while those shows will be performing, there will be the Best Home-made Salsa Contest where contestants will need to wow the judges with their best salsa.
Before the performances by Mariachi Coroel from 3 to 6 p.m. and another performance by Ballet Folkiorico Nacional of Milwaukee from 6 to 7 p.m., there will be a piñata breaking starting at 3 p.m.
New this year, the dance will be held at the American Legion Hall starting at 9 p.m. and lasting until 2 a.m. The dance will feature the band La Brissa de Veracruz y Teciadista Zancudo and DJ Boni Martinez.
All of these events are free for the family to come out and enjoy.
Last year, with the money raised from t-shirt sales, the Darlington Cinco de Mayo Committee made a $1,000 donation to the Darlington Fire Department Dive Team, where they were able to purchase a sonar dummy that they use to train with.
