The annual Eagle Day in Ferryville is taking place on Saturday, Mar. 21, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Ferryville Village Hall. This very popular event is co-sponsored by the Ferryville Tourism Council and the Friends of Pool 9. The chairwoman again this year will be Monique Gonzalez with Lori Novelli as co-chair, and the emcee will be Bob Schmidt.
A program of events for the whole family will showcase the lives of the beautiful eagles who grace the area where we live. Events during the day include nest building, a program on duck identification, details about the Raptor Resource Project with the Decorah Eagles, and a live bird program at 1 p.m. with the birds coming from the River Valley Raptors.
Door prizes will include a bald eagle photo printed on wood generously donated by Deb and Don Warren of Ferryville. Other door prizes include gift certificates from local businesses, a Sibley bird book with binoculars, and a pottery bowl created and donated by Kay Campbell, a Ferryville artist. You have to be present to win, and the door prizes will be chosen before the live bird program.
Kids crafts will be available all throughout the program. There is no charge for entry into the event. A light lunch will be served with a fee for the food, going to the Ferryville First Responders.
Students from De Soto High School have been constructing wood duck boxes to be available for adoption during the Eagle Day event. Friends of Pool 9 will have apparel available for purchase as well. Don and Deb Warren will also have wildlife photography cards for sale also with the proceeds going toward the Eagle Day 2026.
The Eagle Day event has been going on for 15 years in Ferryville. Art from students at the area schools will be displayed for your enjoyment. This art show will focus on eagle art from a large number of area students.
Educating the community about the birds of the Mississippi River flyway is a requirement for the Bird City Wisconsin program, and Eagle Day is one of the big events that helps us with recertification. Currently 130 communities are certified as official Bird City Wisconsin communities.
Ferryville has been the smallest Bird City Community for the past 14 years. We are very appreciative of the volunteers who donate their time, talents, and door prizes that make this event possible. Be sure to check out our Facebook page for more information: ferryvillewi.
