Darlington Sporters Shoot
DARLINGTON – The Darlington Rifle Sporters Shoot will be March 10, 11 and 12 at the Darlington Gun Club. Shooting is available Friday, March 10 at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 11 at 9 a.m., noon and 3 p.m. and Sunday, March 12 at 9 a.m. and noon. Contact Pete Wiegel at 776-4786 for reservations.
Senior Citizen’s
Appreciation Dinner
 SHULLSBURG – Shullsburg Schools will host the 28th Annual Senior Citizen’s Appreciation Dinner on March 15 at the school in the old gym. This dinner is for Shullsburg senior citizens. We ask that you arrive at 11:30 a.m. with dinner to be served at noon. There is no charge for this dinner, and our students will provide musical entertainment. If you need a ride, we will be happy to provide one for you.

Immanuel Church
DARLINGTON – The Women’s Guild of Immanuel Church will be meeting on Thursday, March 9 at 12 noon for a light lunch. The Program for the day will be Mike Dinges, talking about the Amish. Hostess will be Diane Bredeson, Chair; Carol Martin, Co-Chair; Carrie Blaser, Nancy Ruf, Sue Sauer, Tara Glendenning and Chris Gratz. Every one is always welcome to join with us.
American Legion Steak and Chicken Fry
DARLINGTON – The Darlington American Legion will host their Steak and Chicken Fry on Saturday, March 11 from 4:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the American Legion Hall. New York strip will be $11, Steak $9 and chicken $8. Tickets are available from several legion members or at the door. Carryouts and in-town delivery available for $1 charge. Call 776-4041.

WIOTA – The Wiota Fireman’s Auxiliary will be meeting at the Wiota Town Hall, on Monday, March 13 at 7:00 p.m.  The annual card party will be discussed.
Lunch Bunch Meets
DARLINGTON – The topic of discussion at the Monday, March 13, 2017 meeting of Lunch Bunch will be, “Funeral Planning.”  The gathering will take place in the County Board Room of the Lafayette County Courthouse from noon to 1:00 p.m.   Feel free to bring your lunch during this informal hour. Brent & Justin Erickson of Erickson Funeral Homes in Lafayette County, will be the presenters for the session.  The items discussed will be:  advanced funeral planning, understanding funeral laws, and discussion with loved ones.  Questions from the public are welcome. The public is welcome to attend the informal, free session sponsored in part by Lafayette County Home and Community Education (HCE), UW-Extension, and free- will donations.

Bluebird Nest Nature Center Events
DARLINGTON – The Bluebird Nest Nature Center, 308 Main Street, will open for its 4th year on Wednesday, March 15 with an Open House from 1-4 p.m. At 2:00 p.m., Carol McDaniel will show a power point and speak about “Bluebirding in Wisconsin along the Bluebird Trails”. Join Carol and see the new displays at the center. This year the center’s theme is Birds of the World. It is a great time to learn about Eastern Bluebirds in Lafayette County. The blue beauties usually return mid-March.
On Monday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the Bluebird Nest Nature Center, 308 Main Street, Matthew Nachvatal, who coordinates the Breeding Bird Atlas for Lafayette County, will be speaking about how to report bird observations to the Wisconsin Breeding Bird Atlas Project. Matthew is an authority on birds and will discuss how citizens can help report for the Breeding Bird Atlas.
On Wednesday, March 29, at 7:00 p.m., our friend, Mary Zimmerman, will present her program on Frogs and Toads in Lafayette County. Join Mary for an enthusiastic look at these little creatures that reside and play an important part in the eco-systems in Lafayette County.
Community Blood Drives
LAFAYETTE COUNTY – The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center encourages eligible donors to resolve to give blood regularly. Donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with types AB, O, B negative and A negative. For questions about eligibility, please call the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center at (800) 747-5401. To donate, please contact Brad Solberg at 608-776-4001. Blood donation is a safe, simple procedure that takes about 45 minutes to one hour.  Individuals with diabetes or controlled high blood pressure may be accepted as eligible donors. The MVRBC is the exclusive provider to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County.

Darlington Garden Club
DARLINGTON – The Darlington Garden Club will meet Thursday March 16, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room of Town Bank in Darlington. Kristine Haas is both hostess and presenter of lesson. The objective of this organization is to stimulate an enduring love of nature through gardening, through the protection of nature and through the promotion of civic beauty. The club will be discussing projects for 2017. New members are always welcome.

Sons of Norway breakfast
ARGYLE – Monroe Ostestaden Sons of Norway Lodge invites those interested in Norway and Scandinavian culture and history to attend a free informational breakfast on Saturday, March 25 at 8:30 a.m. at Partridge Hall in Argyle. After a tasty breakfast, Monroe Sons of Norway board members and benefits counselor Greg Ragan will speak briefly and show a short film and what the lodge has to offer to new members including how to join Sons of Norway. All guests are free and Lodge members eat free too if they bring a guest. Members who attend without a guest are welcome to attend, but will need to pay for their breakfast. BELMONT – Plan to attend the 19th annual Belmont Friends of FFA Auction on Sunday, March 26 at 12 p.m. in the Belmont Community School Commons. All proceeds from this auction go to support our FFA judging and speaking contest, leadership conference, Greenhouse Management, State & National FFA Conventions, community service projects, Belmont, County & State Fairs, Advocacy in Belmont Schools and Youth Apprentice Programs. Historical and Genealogy Society event
DARLINGTON – The Lafayette County Historical Society and Genealogy Society would like to welcome Dr. Gordon E. Dammann, of Lena, Ill.  He will be at the Town Bank in Darlington in the lower level on Sunday, March 26, at 1:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Dr. Dammann will be speaking on “Frontier Medical Diseases and Treatments”.  He was an Army Post Dental Surgeon and Captain (1969-70).  Dr. Dammann is a retired Dentist from private practice (1971-2011).  He is also the Founder of the Lena Area Historical Society as well as the National Museum of Civil War Medicine.  We will be posting more information about him in the weeks to come.
Darlington 4K Registration
DARLINGTON – The Darlington Community School District is holding their 4K Registration on Monday, April 3 from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Darlington Elementary-Middle School. This is for every child who will be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2017. The registration is available to all children in the Darlington School District. Families considering open enrollment in the district are invited to attend. Parents are asking to bring their child’s birth certificate and immunization records.
