Johnson Public Library Activities
DARLINGTON – The Johnson Public Library has many events for the public to enjoy. The events for May are: May 5: Story Hour 10 a.m.; May 5: Cinco de Mayo Celebration 1:30 p.m.; May 8: Story ‘n’ Craft Hour 10 a.m.; May 11: Passport to Reading Book Club 3:30 p.m., for 1st & 2nd graders; May 12: Story Hour 10 a.m.; May 12: Pages & Popcorn Book Club 1:30 p.m., for 6th-8th graders.
The Living Well Workshop
SHULLSBURG – Put life back in your life. Are you an adult with ongoing health conditions? If you have conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic pain or anxiety The Living Well Workshop can help you take charge of your life. Join us every Tuesday, April 18 through May 23 from 1:00-3:30 p.m. at the Shullsburg Community Townsend Center at 190 N. Judgement Street in Shullsburg. This workshop is free. Mobile Food Pantry
DARLINGTON – Just a reminder that the mobile food pantry for May will be on this Friday the 5th, at Town Bank, in the lower (rear) parking lot. Volunteers are needed from 3:00 p.m. through 6:00 p.m.  Volunteers are welcome to help with just part of the process if they are unable to stay the entire time.  We still need you! If you have not volunteered before, you may simply register when you arrive.
Bloody Lake Rendezvous
WOODFORD – The 36th Annual Bloody Lake Rendezvous will be May 2 through May 7 at Black Hawk Memorial Park in Woodford. Historic Preservation celebration
MINERAL POINT – Travel to Mineral Point as they celebrate its legacy of Historic Preservation. The four-day celebration takes place May 4-7, 2017. On Thursday night, May 4, enjoy a free presentation at the Mineral Point Opera House at 7 p.m. by the Mineral Point Library Archives Curator; showing images of house, street scenes and town view from the 1800s till now. Friday night finds a pasty dinner at the Walker House followed by Will Fellows, author of Passion to Preserve. LAFAYETTE COUNTY – Two more ‘listening session’ meetings are scheduled around the county for the Fairgrounds Project. The first will be in the Village of Belmont at the Community Building, May 8, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. The second will be at the Knarley Oak in Argyle, May 9, 2017 also at 7:00 p.m.
Lunch Bunch
DARLINGTON – The topic of discussion at the Monday, May 8, 2017 meeting of Lunch Bunch will be, “Understanding Cardiac Issues.”  The gathering will take place in the County Board Room of the Lafayette County Courthouse from noon to 1:00 p.m.   Feel free to bring your lunch during this informal hour. Dr. James Hinderaker, Unity Point-Meritor-Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County, will be the presenter for this session.  The items discussed will be:  Coumadin and Atrial Fibrillation; Congestive Heart Failure; and Correlation of Kidneys.  Questions from the public are welcome. The public is welcome to attend the informal, free session sponsored in part by Lafayette County Home and Community Education (HCE), UW-Extension, and free- will donations.

Manor Auxiliary meeting
DARLINGTON – There will be an upcoming meeting of the Lafayette Manor Auxiliary on Tuesday May 9th, 2017 at 4:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Sun Room of the Lafayette Manor. As always, the Lafayette Manor Auxiliary is welcomes new members and new ideas! Everyone is encouraged to attend. The agenda will include the annual election of officers and planning for the annual cookout/ fundraiser in September. Please help the Auxiliary support the great care and service to the community provided by the Lafayette Manor.
Immanuel Church Women’s Guild
DARLINGTON – The Immanuel Church Women’s Guild will be hosting the “80 and over, Shut In” party on Thursday, May 11 at noon. This will be fun afternoon. All special members will be given tender, loving care. But everyone is welcome to come and join with them. Servers for the day will be Mary Lou Tuescher, chair; Wendy Leahy, co-chair; Joanie Keister, Betsy Wiegel, Karen Siegenthaler, Amy Ruegsegger, Christie Meier, Amy Ray and Mary Leahy. Cinco de Mayo
DARLINGTON – The Darlington Chamber/Main Street presents Cinco de Mayo Darlington on Saturday, May 13 from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m. at the City of Darlington Festival Grounds. This is a free admission event. There will be food booths, arts, crafts, informational and merchandise booths, a soccer tournament, inflatable rides, talent show, best homemade salsa contest, and plenty of music and performances. The Dance will be at the American Legion Hall featuring the band La Brisa de Veracruz y Tecladista Zancudo and DJ Boni. Join in on this festive day celebrating all the amazing cultures that call Darlington home.
Dementia Questions
MINERAL POINT – Ask the experts with your questions on dementia on Tuesday, May 16 from 6-8 p.m. at the Quality Inn in Mineral Point. D. Aaron Dunn will provide an overview of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementias including common questions patients and family members ask. The meeting is free. Registration is requested. Bluebird Nest Nature Center event
DARLINGTON – On Wednesday, May 17, at 7:00 p.m., Steve Sample, from Wild Birds Unlimited in Madison, will be presenting a program on the beautiful Northern Cardinal at the Bluebird Nest Nature Center, 308 Main Street, Darlington. Many people love this colorful year round bird. Join Steve at the nature center to learn more about its habits and to enjoy some beautiful photos. Refreshments will be served after the program so participants can meet Steve. The nature center is sponsored by the Lafayette County Bluebird Society. There are no charges for any programming at the nature center, but donations are gratefully appreciated.
White Oak Savanna Event
DODGEVILLE – White Oak Savanna Events Farm & Sanctuary is pleased to announce it will hold a free, public grand opening celebration May 20 from 3:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The public is enthusiastically invited to join owners Paul and Audrey Gaynor and staff as they christen White Oak Savanna’s historic Lloyd Jones Barn Pavillion, the newly finished Bluestem Kitchen Complex and host White Oak Savanna’s inaugural event featuring live music starting at 6:30 p.m., yoga at 4 p.m., hiking tours of the property, and tasty good food and beverages.
Belmont EMS Pancake Breakfast
BELMONT – Fill up on a great breakfast and support Belmont EMS on May 21 from 7:30 a.m. until noon at the Belmont Fire House. Breakfast is all you can eat. Come feast on pancakes, eggs, ham and more. New this year – FREE vital checking. We’ll check your blood pressures, sugar and more. Even the kids can practice at their own station. Your support goes toward the purchase of updates equipments and continuing education for our EMTs. Cost is a free-will donation.
UCC Vacation Bible School
DARLINGTON – Summer will soon be upon us so, mark your calendars for this years Vacation Bible School (VBS).  Go Fish’s VICTORY is the theme.  The dates for the program are Monday, June 12th thru Friday, June 16th.  We begin with a light supper Monday thru Thursday evening and end on Friday with a potluck and program.  Start time is 5:15-8:00 p.m.  All children who have completed 4K thru completed 5th grade are welcome and there is no charge.  This years VBS will be held at Immanuel United Church of Christ at 339 E. Louisa St. in Darlington.  Pre-registration is appreciated but you can also register on the 12th.  This is an ecumenical event.  The sponsoring churches are:  First Baptist, Grace Lutheran, Immanuel United Church of Christ, Our Lady of Fatima/Holy Rosary, and United Methodist.  
Summer Outreach Adult Education Classes
