County may hire an animal officer

With encouragement from the Crawford County Board, Sheriff Dale McCullick is investigating the creation of an animal control position for the county.

McCullick is currently investigating cost and possible funding options.

“We get calls on a weekly basis about stray dogs and dogs running at large and dogs chasing livestock,” McCullick said. “I was told that we are only one of two counties that doesn’t have some type of animal control officer, but that number is not confirmed by me. The county relies on my department to do the job, but we are not equipped.  I certainly don’t want to put a stray, dirty, mangy dog in the back seat of our squad and drive 40 miles.”

McCullick is looking for feedback from the public.
