Ground broken for new Boscobel Veterans Memorial

A GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY for the new Boscobel Veterans Memorial was held Wednesday, July 20 at its future location on Mound Street behind Peoples State Bank. On hand for the ceremony were, from left, Corey Grassel, bank manager; Roger Mink, Fritz Curtis and Joe Ricco of Boscobel VFW Post 10393, City Engineer Mike Reynolds, and Gary Young, president of the Boscobel Veterans Memorial Fund Foundation.

It’s been a long time in coming, but construction will begin soon on the new Boscobel Veterans Memorial. It will be located at the corner of Mound Street and Southview Road on a two-lot parcel donated by Peoples State Bank.

“The Veterans Memorial was concepted five years ago with a $10,000 donation from John Salzgeber,” said Gary Young, president of the Boscobel Veterans Memorial Fund Foundation. “The key was to find a place for it, and thanks to the generosity of People State Bank we now have that place.”

The Boscobel Park Board initially gave permission to locate the memorial next to Well #2 in the southwest corner of Kronshage Park, but due to the number of underground water lines at that location it was abandoned...
