MIFFLIN — Iowa–Grant School District property owners will pay about 7.5 percent more in school taxes with the approval of the school district’s 2013–14 budget.

The budget is estimated at $8.76 million, up 3.6 percent from the 2012–13 school year. The tax levy will be $2.74 million, up from last year’s almost $2.49 million. The mil rate is estimated at $11.84 per $1,000 assessed valuation, up from $11.01 in 2012–13.

The owner of a school district house assessed at $150,000 will pay $1,776 in school taxes, up from $1,651.50 last year.

The budget is not balanced, but school district director of business and finance Loras Winders said the 2013–14 budget will be augmented by carryover from the 2012–13 budget. The school district has $2.08 million in fund balance.
