The National Take Back Initiative to dispose of unused prescription drugs will be held Saturday, Oct. 26.

Grant County sheriff’s deputies will be at the Montfort Village Hall, 102 E. Park St., and the Dickeyville Village Hall, 500 East Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Platteville Police Department has a drop box that can be accessed at any time.

Police are working with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to prevent pill abuse and theft by allowing people to remove from their homes potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

Last April, Americans turned in 371 tons (more than 742,000 pounds) of prescription drugs at more than 5,800 sites operated by the DEA and its thousands of state and local law enforcement partners. In six previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners took in more than 2.8 million pounds of pills.
