Spring election was mostly a quiet affair

The 2025 Nonpartisan Spring Election was conducted quietly and competently by local municipal clerks, with only a few contested elections on the ballot.

Chris Taylor prevailed in her race against Maria Lazar for the State Supreme Court, challenger Jill Quandahl defeated incumbent Harrison Heilman for Soldiers Grove trustee, and Brian Reynolds prevailed in his contest with Dan Snyder for the District 12 seat on the Crawford County Board of Supervisors.

Supreme Court justice elect Chris Taylor took 60.1 percent of the vote statewide, with Lazar receiving 39.8 percent. Taylor swept Southwest and South Central Wisconsin, winning in La Crosse County with 69 percent, Monroe with 50.1, Vernon with 60, Crawford with 60, Richland with 59, Grant with 60, Sauk with 61, Iowa with 67, Lafayette with 55.

Jill Quandahl won her race for Soldiers Grove trustee with 69 votes to Heilman’s 43. Brian Reynolds won his race for county board supervisor with 130 votes to Snyder’s 107.

Both the Wauzeka and Prairie du Chien school district referendum’s passed. In Wauzeka, the measure received 270 yes votes and 189 no votes. In Prairie du Chien, 1,371 yes votes were cast, with 925 no votes.

In Viroqua, Krista Browne was elected to the position of mayor, receiving 862 votes to Roger Call’s 666 votes. In contested Vernon County Board elections, incumbent Wade Lawler fended off a challenge from Max Kane, receiving 375 votes to Kane’s 135 votes. Incumbent Lonnie Muller was defeated by challenger Greg Lawton, taking 171 votes to Lawton’s 197 votes.

Partisan elections

Remaining in 2026 are the Partisan Primary Election on Tuesday, August 11, and the Partisan General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026.

Shaping up for primary elections in August are the State 17th Senate District, State Assembly District 49, Wisconsin Governor, Wisconsin Secretary of State, and Wisconsin Treasurer.

In the November general election, voters will elect a federal Third Congressional District representative, a Wisconsin Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer, and a State Senator and State Representative.
