Let the construction begin for Fennimore's new library
Ground breaking ceremony held for library expansion project
Library groundbreaking

“It’s going to be awesome,” exclaimed Dwight T. Parker Public Library Director Cathy Smith at the library’s ground breaking ceremony for its upcoming remodeling/expansion held on Thursday, June 26 on the library grounds.

While addressing the crowd that braved the hot, humid conditions to witness the event, Smith first went over all the new amenities the updated version of the library will have including community/meeting rooms to hold events, additional copiers, computers, as well as the much needed handicap accessible addition.

Smith said the project itself wouldn’t have possible without the eight volunteers who spent “countless hours” preparing the grant application which was awarded to the library last October.

The $4,250,000 grant fund awarded towards the library’s approximate 6,000 sq. ft. expansion/remodeling project was through the State of Wisconsin Department of Administration’s “leftover funds grant” given to them for the Flexible Facilities Program.

Smith also thanked the two fund-raising committees for their part in helping to raising to additional funds needed towards the expansion.

Lastly she thanked the community for their continuing support towards an modern library which as Smith stated, “will be seeing some real movement in the next couple weeks,” with the library moving to a temporary location during the project in August.

Fennimore Mayor Ryan Boebel spoke next, thanking Smith , the library board members, the community, all of those who made donations, and the designers for their parts in the library project.

“Its a great day for Fennimore, and it will be a great addition,” Boebel went on say.

Smith thanked Boebel for his part, to which Boebel joked, “I just signed a lot of things.”

Many rounds of ceremonial ground breaking photo-ops were then taken to finish up the event.
