There has been recent news coverage recalling the death of President John F. Kennedy. It was 60 years ago when he was shot and killed as he rode in a Dallas, Texas parade.
There are many local folks who probably remember watching TV, in black and white, as a series of dramatic events unfolded in that city on November 23, 1963. They probably saw TV anchor Walter Cronkite announce to the nation that President Kennedy was dead. Joe Biden, our current president, was a college student at that time.
The Village of Muscoda has a small connection to Kennedy. The then U. S. Senator was campaigning to be the Democratic representative in the upcoming Presidential Election.
At that time Muscoda’s Kratochwill Building was a new structure. I recall being in the front hallway as Kennedy came into the structure, surrounded by local folks. For me to get a photo of the event I had to raise my camera high above my head to shoot over the crowd. Although I don’t have a copy of that photo, I still have a mental image of Kennedy with the white-haired Jim Azim Sr. next to the each other in the crowded hallway.

In the building conference room JFK was introduced to the gathering by the late “Ted” Victora, Muscoda’s “Mister Democrat.” Kennedy made some brief remarks before going to Boscobel where he spent more time.
