‘Not a Perfect Fit: Stories from Jane's World’ is a new book by Jane Schmidt.

Jane Schmidt, the owner-operator of Fitness Choices, has touched many people, both participants in her workouts and readers of her award-winning newspaper column, with her gift for telling a good story. Now, she has published an engaging collection of stories and essays that are laugh-out-loud funny one moment and thought-provoking the next.

Author Jane Schmidt will hold a book-launch event for her new book, Not a Perfect Fit: Stories from Jane's World on Friday, Oct. 23 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Encore, next to the historical Temple Theater, 114 S. Main St. in Viroqua.

Michael Perry, New York Times bestselling author (Population 485, The Jesus Cow) says this about the book: "Jane Schmidt documents the essential day-to-day of rural Wisconsin life with a deft balance of sentiment, reportage and humor. You will find yourself nodding, grinning and sometimes dabbing at your eyes as you read these stories."

The stories in ‘Not a Perfect Fit’ range from living off-grid as the only English woman in an Amish neighborhood, to family trips that will recall National Lampoon's Vacation. That the author manages to rise above the many challenges she faces will both inspire and entertain. Filled with animal antics, gratitude, mishaps, and adventures, the book has a tell-all, single-girl-gone-country-down-home charm that you won’t be able to resist.

About the Author: Jane Schmidt, as the owner of Fitness Choices, has been offering fitness classes throughout Vernon County and beyond for over 13 years. More recently she started Turtle Adventures, guiding backpacking trips for women. Her weekly column, ‘Jane's World,’ appearing in the Crawford County Independent and Kickapoo Scout, won a first place award for local column in the Wisconsin Newspaper Association's 2013 Better Newspaper Contest. When not writing or teaching fitness classes, Jane spends time backpacking in places like the Grand Canyon and Isle Royale, biking across Wisconsin, hiking and kayaking in the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, or just hanging out with her animal family in rural Viola.
