A four-mile stretch of road in need of repair in the Town of Mt. Ida will receive $175,000 as part of the Community Project Funding FY26 (fiscal year 2026).

Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District Representative Derrick Van Orden, a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, recently announced that over $22 million will be invested into communities in the 3rd district as part of his Community Project Funding (CPF) request.

“These investments strengthen our small towns, support our first responders, expand healthcare access, and fix the infrastructure that Wisconsin families rely on every day,” Van Orden stated in a press release. “I’m proud to bring real, tangible results home for western Wisconsin.”

He went on to state “I’ve been clear from day one: I will fight to send taxpayer dollars back where they belong, to the people of Wisconsin’s Third District.”

Back in August 2024, Van Orden toured Collins Road, off of County Road K, with Town of Mount Ida Chairman Jamie Horsfall and Supervisor Chris Kreul.

At the time, the township was hoping to receive funding as part of the FY25 (fiscal year 2025) Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development appropriations bill, but fast forward nearly 18 months later, the funding is now in place.

The $175,000 project would help to repair/improve the four mile stretch of Collins Road, which in turn, according to Horsfall in an interview in August 2024, would not only improve the quality of the road, but allow for improved infrastructure for agribusiness/farmers, school buses, and other vehicles to conduct business and transportation in the township.

“We have 50 miles in this township,” Horsfall went on explain. “Just to have this four mile stretch of road improved would be another step towards the rebuilding efforts in the Town of Mount Ida.”

Other area projects receiving funding as part of the Community Project Funding FY26 include the Prairie du Chien Wastewater Treatment Facility upgrades to meet DNR standards—$1,250,000, and Cuba City for water and sewer infrastructure replacement—$1,586,913.
