Two die in head-on crash on Hwy. 35

A head-on collision April 29 in Bergen township resulted in Vernon County’s second and third traffic deaths of 2013.

Robert Williams, 70, of Stoddard was pronounced dead by the Vernon County Coroner’s Office at the accident scene on Hwy. 35, about one mile south of Stoddard.

Margaret Springborn, 55, of rural De Soto was pronounced dead at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse by her doctor as a result of her injuries.

According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua,  at approximately 3:20 p.m., Williams was northbound and passing a vehicle on Hwy. 35 when he struck Springborn’s southbound vehicle.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were the Wisconsin State Patrol, Stoddard-Bergen Fire Department, Genoa-Harmony Fire Department, Stoddard EMS, Genoa EMS and the Vernon County Coroner’s Office.

The accident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the State Patrol.
