Viroqua woman hurt in vehicle/deer collision

A 65-year-old Viroqua woman suffered minor injuries June 5 when her vehicle collided with a deer on Co. PC in Christiana township.

According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua, at 8:30 p.m. Sandra Hunter was driving south, just north of State Street in Newry, when she struck a deer.

Her vehicle sustained extensive damage, including a broken windshield and driver side window. Despite this, Hunter was able to maintain control of the vehicle and came to a stop on State Street. She sustained minor injuries, but declined medical treatment at the scene.

Assisting at the scene were the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Cashton Police Department, Cashton First Responders and Tri-State Ambulance.

The accident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
