Welcome to the new DHS school year
Darlington Mitchell Austin principal

My name is Mitchell Austin and I am humbled to be joining Darlington as the new high school principal. I am happy to be a part of a community and school district that is collaborative, high-achieving, and studentcentered.

I am originally from Belmont where I was raised on a beef farm. My parents taught me many lessons about work ethic, humility, and how to be a man of character. Growing up in a small community and high school I was able to take advantage of many opportunities. I participated in athletics, Future Farmers of America, musicals/ plays, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and much more. I always loved going to school and being around people, so it was a natural choice for me to pursue a career in education at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. I have spent the last 9 years teaching 5th grade, coaching multiple sports, and advising a few different organizations at Belmont Community Schools. Education, as a student and teacher, has taught me that many powerful lessons can happen inside of the classroom walls, yet some magnificent learning opportunities exist when you allow yourself to step outside of the classroom. I have been blessed to be able to take students all over the United States each summer on mission trips and deeply invest in students. During that time, I was able to earn my master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin River Falls. It is these experiences that have unlocked many opportunities for me and why I am eagerly looking forward to this new opportunity to serve the students, staff, and community of Darlington.

When I am not serving in my role as an educator, I tend to be found on my family’s farm. Being able to work alongside my dad is one of my favorite things to do. If I am not there, I am typically at home cooking food, reading a book, or hanging out with my wife and dogs.

As I have stepped into this new role, I’ve just started to grasp the exceptional place that Darlington is. I am truly grateful to be part of the team at DHS and I am committed to upholding the high standards of excellence that define Darlington.
