Ervin D. “Erv” Engelke, 71, of Benton, died Saturday, June 3, 2017, at UW-Hospitals and Clinics in Madison.  Services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at the Benton Bible Church in Benton where Pastor Bruce Bennett officiated.  Burial was in Shawnee Cemetery in New Diggings.  Friends called from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Benton.  Friends also called from 9:15-10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church before the service.
Erv was born on Oct. 23, 1945, in Mineral Point, the son of Ervin W. and Marian D. (Treloar) Engelke.  He married Nancy March on Feb. 8, 1964, at Belmont.  She preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 1995.  He later married Rebecca J. Taylor on Nov. 16, 2010, in Council Hill, Ill.  Erv was always in the farming industry his entire life and was very proud of that.  He also worked as a mechanic and hauled milk for 18 years.
Erv enjoyed fishing, dancing and helping others.  If he had the right tool he could fix anything.  Erv was a square shooter and the salt of the earth.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca “Becky”; two sons, James Lee “Jim” Engelke, of Brodhead and Bill (Jessie) Engelke, of South Wayne; two sisters, Mary Ann (Paul) Hebert, of Racine and Carol Wiegel, of Monroe; three brothers, William Engelke, of Nekoosa, Robert “Bob: (Judy) Engelke, of Dubuque, Iowa, and Gene (Judy) Engelke, of Windsor; four grandchildren, Tyler and Aaron Engelke, Eric (Rhonda) Strothman, and Adrian Strothman; two great-grandchildren, Sam and Charlie Strothman.  He is also survived by his stepchildren, Jesse Weiland and April Weiland, both of Dubuque, Iowa; and his step-grandchildren, Aiva Lee and Brody Trowbridge, and Karson Eimer. He was also preceded in death by a son, Ervin Dale, and a grandson, Jared Strothman.
