Lula M. “Lu” Elmer, 81 of Monroe, died at her home on Thursday, May 3, 2012, with her family by her side following an unselfish and courageous battle with cancer. Lu was born Jan. 7, 1931, in the town of Willow Springs, Lafayette County, the daughter of Irving “Pat” and Julia (Kendall) Nevels. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church with Father Michael Klarer, Celebrant. Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Full obituary in the May 10, 2012 issue of the Republican Journal.
