LA CROSSE — Fennimore senior Madden Crubel began the 2026 spring sports season with a bang at Saturday’s Mauston Indoor Invitational at UW–La Crosse.

The Division 1 Southern Alabama recruit opened his final season at FHS by breaking the shot put school record to win the event at Saturday’s 19-team meet with a record-setting toss of 55’9.5” to beat a field of 62 throwers.

Crubel beat runner-up Aiden Krista of Black River Falls by more than a foot to score 10 of the Fennimore boys’ 14 team points, which was good for a 13th place tie in the team standings. Fellow Fennimore senior Corbin Demo finished eighth in the shot put at 39’11.5” to score another point.

Crubel now hold the Fennimore boys school records in the shot put, discus and 4x100 relay.

The Fennimore boys 4x800 relay team of Orlando Bonilla, Teegan Griswold, Caiden Evans and Bobby Schmidt finished sixth with a time of 9:47.74. Junior Jakob Kretschman finished ninth in the boys’ 55-meter-dash at 6.834 seconds and ninth in the 200 at 24.69 seconds. Senior Griffin Fry placed 11th in the boys 1,600 at 5:06.49. Junior Reece Kelley finished 12th in the boys long jump at 18’1”.

HONORABLE MENTION (in alphabetical order):
Landon Friesen, Jr., sprints/jumps, Iowa–Grant boys track and field
Friesen won the boys high jump (6'0"), placed fourth in the 400 meters (25.07 seconds) and teamed with Angel Vazquez-Bartolo, Alexis Gaytan-Gonzales and Noah Lange to finish third in the boys 4x400 relay (4:04.21) at last Saturday's 12-team Tri-State Small Schools Indoor Invitational at UW–Platteville.

Duncan Harper, Sr., sprints/jumps, and Devan Woodhouse, Sr., pole vault, Richland Center boys track and field
Harper finished third in the 55-meter-dash at 6.64 seconds in the finals, and took second in the boys long jump at 20'7" inches, while Woodhouse cleared 12'3" to win the boys pole vault at last Saturday's Mauston Indoor Invitational at UW–La Crosse. The duo combined for 28 of Center's 48 team points to place fifth at the 18-team meet. 

Rhiannon Nelson-Hahn, Sr., hurdles/jumps, Fennimore girls track and field
In the girls’ competition at last Saturday's Mauston Indoor Invitational at UW–Platteville, senior Rhiannon Nelson-Hahn finished second in the triple jump (32’5.5”), third in the 55-meter hurdles (9.50) and sixth in the high jump (4’10”) to score 17 team points. The Fennimore girls finished seventh in the team standings with 31.5 points.

Lexie Olmstead, Sr., jumps/sprints, Lancaster girls track and field
Freshman Lexie Olmstead began her high school career by winning the long jump (16'3") and finished second in both the high jump (5'6") and 4x400 relay with senior sister Kylie Olmstead, and sophomore Maddy Burr and Maddy Driscoll (4:15.27) at last Saturday's Tri-State Smalls Schools Indoor Invitational at UW–Platteville. Olmstead's incredible high jump of 5'6" tied Julie Millin's 34-year old record from 1992. Olmstead scored 20 of Lancaster's 65 team points to help the Flying Arrows finish third behind Lena–Winslow (Ill.) (166) and Northeast (IA) (71.5).
