Local track and field standouts shine at recent meets

Fennimore junior Madden Crubel placed second out of 69 throws in the boys’ discus with a toss of 170’8” at last Saturday’s 50-team Arrowhead Myrhum Invitational. He also placed fifth out of 30 in the shot put (51’2.75”).

Senior Oliver Post in the 110 hurdles (:15.56), the 300 hurdles (:43.09) and the high jump (6’2”), where he also set a new school record by four inches, at last Friday's Black Hawk Invitational.

Cassville/Potosi sophomore Brielle Fishnick, who not only won the 100 (:12.96), the 200 (:27.19) and the triple jump (32’3”), but also set new meet records in all three events. Fishnick also brought home a first-place finish in the long jump (15’0.5”) at last Friday's Black Hawk Warrior Invitational.

Madden Crubel, Jr., throws, sprints, Fennimore track and field
HARTLAND — Fennimore Madden Crubel is finding his rhythm at just the right time. The junior track and field standout placed second out of 69 throws in the boys’ discus with a toss of 170’8” at last Saturday’s 50-team Arrowhead Myrhum Invitational. He also placed fifth out of 30 in the shot put (51’2.75”). 

Crubel was even better at Tuesday's SWAL Late-Season Meet at Boscobel, wining the discus with a new school record of 170'1", and the shot put with a new PR throw of 55'7", while playing second in the boys' 100-meter-dash (11.45 seconds).

Crubel also won the boys shot put with a PR of 54’8” and teamed up with Jakob Kretschman, Reece Kelley and Brandon Seitz on the winning 4x100 relay  in a new school record time of 44.46 seconds to help the Fennimore boys finish second  last Monday night with 110 points, behind only Prairie du Chien (148.5).

SOUTH WAYNE – The Cassville/Potosi boys and girls track and field teams both dominated at last Thursday’s Warrior Invite held at Black Hawk High School in South Wayne.

With 155 total points, the Cassville/Potosi boys finished 65 points ahead of second-place Monroe to win the boys team title, while the Cassville/Potosi girls scored 115 points to win the girls team title and finish 19 points ahead of second-place Black Hawk.

On the boys side, Cassville/Potosi got a number of first-place finishes that included senior Oliver Post in the 110 hurdles (:15.56), the 300 hurdles (:43.09) and the high jump (6’2”), where he also set a new school record by four inches, as well as sophomore Aaron Edge in the 200 (:24.46) and the 400 (:55.79).

Isaac Adams, Hayden Radloff, Connor Robbins and Ryder Stramaglia also teamed up with win the 4x200 with a time of 1:41.45.

The Cassville/Potosi girls were led by sophomore Brielle Fishnick, who not only won the 100 (:12.96), the 200 (:27.19) and the triple jump (32’3”), but also set new meet records in all three events. Fishnick also brought home a first-place finish in the long jump (15’0.5”).

Other first-place finishes for the Cassville/Potosi girls included Grace Laufenberg in the 400 (1:03.31), Jessa Caley in the 3200 (16:08.33) and the 4x800 relay team of Caley, Ava Gillilan, Lainey Riedl and Allie Kaufman (12:01.53).

Kalli Hodgson, Sr., P, Belmont softball
Hodgson pitched back-to-back gems to lead the Division 1 #1-ranked Braves to Six Rivers Conference victories over Benton/Shullsburg and Pecatonica this week. Hodgson struck out nine in a one-five five-inning shutout of Benton/Shullsburg Monday before striking out six and allowed just one unearned run on four hits in seven innings in Thursday's 2–1 win over Pecatonica. 

Jessie Ray, Sr., P, Benton/Shullsburg softball
Benton/Shullsburg pitcher Jessie Ray did her best to give her team a chance to win in last Friday's 13-inning 3–1 non-conference loss to visiting River Ridge (Ill.). Ray struck out an incredible school record 25 batters, but suffered the hardluck loss as her teammate could only muster one run on three hits in the 13-inning marathon. Ray allowed three runs, two earned, on 12 hits and three walks in 13 innings. Ray was back at peak form in a 1–0 victory over Argyle/Black Hawk Thursday afternoon, striking out 12 while allowing one walk in the five-hit shutout.

Emma Wall, Sr., C/P, Wauzeka–Steuben softball
Wauzeka–Steuben catcher Emma Wall went 9-for-16 with four doubles, one home run, six runs scored, five RBI and 2 walks in four conference wins last week, and also earned the pitching win in last Friday's 13–3 win over Cashton after striking out seven and walking three in four hitless innings in the pitching circle. Wall is batting a team-high .552 (37-for-67) with eight doubles, four triples, four home runs, 24 RBI and 31 runs scored in 18 games this year for the first-place Hornets (15–3, 13–0 R&V).
