Nolan Hanke, Sr., 190 pounds, and Toay Ragatz, So., 215 pounds, Lancaster wrestling
RICHLAND CENTER — Senior Nolan Hanke won the 190-pound title and sophomore Toay Ragatz won the 215-pound championship to lead the Lancaster boys wrestling team to the team title at last Saturday's SWC/SWAL Clash conference tournament.
Both wrestlers went 4–0 on the day, Hanke collecting 27.5 points with two pins and a technical fall following a first-round bye, and Ragatz collecting 25 points on one pin, one major decision and one regular decision following his first-round bye.
Hanke scored a 18–0 technical fall over Fennimore senior Ryder Zdanczewicz in the 190-pound championship match, while Ragatz beat Prairie du Chien's Jack Simmons 18–8 with a major decision in the 215-pound title bout.
Coach Tyson Wolf’s Flying Arrows scored 160 points to finish just half a point ahead of second-place Iowa–Grant/Highland (159.5), and 22 points ahead of third-place Mineral Point (138), which won this year's SWAL Duals title. Iowa–Grant/Highland crowned two individual champions, as did Belmont/Platteville, while Mineral Point had one. Riverdale (137.5), which finished fourth, had the most individual champions with three.
"We talk about finishing the day with an odd place number, and Saturday we did a great job of that,” said Lancaster head coach Tyson Wolf. “We won nine of the 10 placement matches that we had, so it is a nice stepping stone as we head into the sectional tournament here in a couple of weeks.”
HONORABLE MENTION (in alphabetical order):
Alyvia Bahl, Sr., 126-pound, Lancaster girls wrestling
The Lancaster girls beat Iowa–Grant/Highland, 30–9, in a dual meet last Tuesday night after three matches and four forfeits. Picking up the team’s only pin and collecting her 100th career victory was 126-pound senior Alyvia Bahl, who is the only female wrestler in school history to reach the 100-win mark. “For Liv to get 100 wins is a huge milestone that no one will ever be able to take away from her, and being the first female to do it is even more impressive and the impact that she has had on the younger girls in the youth program is a whole lot more than I think even she realizes,” said Lancaster head coach Tyson Wolf.
Jerrin Glasbrenner, Jr., 157 pounds, Fennimore boys wrestling
Glasbrenner reached the top of the podium by winning the 157-pound title, while sophomore Carson Bassett and senior Ryder Zdanczewicz finished second at 138 and 190 pounds respectively. Glasbrenner (22–6) reached the finals with a first-round bye, a 2:20 pin of Iowa–Grant/Highland senior Bryar Yelinek and a 16–0 technical fall over junior Trayton McLimans (2:32). He then received a medical forfeit victory over Belmont/Platteville senior Tyler Kisamore to earn his first conference title. Glasbrenner, who placed sixth at conference at 126 years a year ago as a sophomore, scored 27.5 team points to help Fennimore (116.5) finished seventh out of 13 teams.
Zach Hermsen, Sr., F, Lancaster boys basketball
Herman scored a game-high 26 points in Lancaster's 77–65 SWC loss to Dodgeville last Thursday night to become just the eighth player in school history to score 1,000 points in a career. Hermsen joined Sheila Evans, Marc Houtakker, Tom Driscoll, Dawson Bowen, Kiley Kelly, Jessica Morgan and teammate Taylor Williams, who reached the milestone mark earlier this season.
Myron Reuter, Sr., PG, Platteville boys basketball
Reuter scored a team-high 20 points to lead Platteville to a dominating 72–25 Southwest Wisconsin Conference victory over visiting Prairie du Chien last Thursday night. In the process, Reuter became the seventh Platteville boy to score 1,000 career points, joining Hillmen all-time leading scorer Lucas Ludlum (2021–25, 1,334 points), Jim “Louie” Lawinger (1964–67, 1,197 points), Doug Knutson (1962–65), Dick McKichan (1960–63), Will Ryan (1994–97) and Donovan Blevins (2014–18, 1,012 points).
Dylan Weigel, Sr., 144 pounds, and Briggs Weigel, So., 132 pounds, Belmont/Platteville wrestling
Brothers Dylan and Briggs Weigel won individual title for BP, which finished sixth with 124 pounds with just seven wrestlers in the varsity tournament. Senior Dylan Weigel won the 144 pound title, less than 20 minutes after sophomore Briggs claimed the 132-pound championship, after both won individual conference titles a year ago.
Griffin Wineski, So., 113 pounds, and Brock Hinderman, Jr., 170 pounds, Iowa–Grant/Highland wrestling
Sophomore Griffin Wineski won the 113-pound title and junior Brock Hinderman won the 175-pound crown to help Iowa–Grant/Highland finish second at last week's SWC/SWAL Clash conference title. The Panthers (159.5) finished just one-half point back of champion Lancaster (160).l
