BOYS BASKETBALL: Six Rivers Boys Basketball Jamboree, Saturday, Dec. 19 at UW–Platteville, 11:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Bo Ryan Court at UW–Platteville's Williams Fieldhouse will play host to a quartet of Six Rivers boys basketball games Saturday afternoon, this week's McDonald's Games of the Week. The event will tip-off with a non-conference battle between defending Six Rivers West champion Shullsburg against Juda of the Six Rivers East, followed by three SRW conference games. River Ridge will face Belmont at 1:15 p.m., followed by Potosi and Benton at 3 p.m. and Highland versus Cassville at 4:45 p.m. Below is a preview of each match-up.

Six Rivers Jamboree Schedule

Shullsburg (3–1) vs. Juda (2–3), 11:30 a.m.

The Miners, who reached the sectional finals of the WIAA Division 5 playoffs a year ago, are off to a 3–1 start. Shullsburg nipped Six Rivers West foe Belmont last Friday night, 45–44, when junior guard Lance Lierman hit the game-winning jumper with 18 seconds left in the game. Lierman finished the night with 12 points and three steals. Fellow junior Hunter Mayte had 15 points, 10 assists, seven steals and five rebounds to lead the Miners. Shullsburg is coming off its first loss of the season, a 65–50 non-conference setback against Southwestern on Monday.

Junior forward Matt Schmitt leads the Panthers (2–3) in scoring at 14.7 points per game. Juda is coming off a 61–45 loss to Albany. The Panthers suffered a 69–42 loss to Belmont two weeks ago, the same Braves squad that lost to Shullsburg by a single point last Friday.

River Ridge (1–3, 1–0 SRW) vs. Belmont (3–3, 1–1 SRW), 1:15 p.m.

The Braves and first-year varsity head coach Glenn Gaulke came within a point of knocking off point of toppling preseason Six Rivers West favorite Shullsburg last Friday night before suffering a 58–54 non-conference loss at Albany on Tuesday to fall to 3–3 overall. Senior forward Raine Voigts posted back-to-back 30-point games in wins over Juda and Highland, including a career-high 33 points in last Tuesday's 72–66 win over the Cardinals. Senior sharp-shooter Jon Bahr scored a team-high 13 points in Friday's loss at Shullsburg.

Coach Nate Copsey's Timberwolves, picked to finish last in the SRW, scored their first victory of the season, a 59–44 victory over Benton last Friday night. Junior Ben Ertz scored a game-high 18 points and Caleb Irish adde 17.

Potosi (1–2, 1–1 SRW) vs. Benton (1–3, 1–1 SRW), 3 p.m.

Senior forward Nate Friederick is tops on the team in scoring (17.3 ppg), rebounding (13.3 rpg) and assist (3.3 apg). He posted 17 points and 13 rebounds in Friday's win over the Cometes.

Benton has dropped back-to-back games to Argyle on Tuesday and River Ridge last Friday after opening conference play with a 59–48 win over Cassville on Tuesday, Dec. 8. Guards Aaron Coffey and Brooks Tiedeman led the Zephyrs with 16 points each in last week's win over the Comets. Tiedeman made three 3-pointers and scored 17 points in Friday's loss to Ridge.

Highland (0–3, 0–1 SRW) vs. Cassville (2–3, 0–2 SRW), 4:45 p.m.

Both teams are searching for their first win in conference play, and Highland is still looking for a win of any kind. High-scoring junior guard John Ross Linscheid scored 32 points in last Tuesday's 72–66 loss at Belmont.

The Comets are looking to rebound after a 70–56 loss to Potosi last Friday night. Senior Dylan Ganahl-Johll leads the team in both scoring (15.8 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg). Johll scored 28 points and pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds in the loss at Potosi.

MCDONALD'S SWNEWS4U.COM CO-GAME OF THE WEEK (May 6–13)
SIX RIVERS CONFERENCE SOFTBALL: #1 Bemont 6, #2 Barneveld 0

By Jason Nihles, The Platteville Journal, Fennimore Times, Boscobel Dial

#1-ranked Braves blank #2 Eagles to take sole possession of first place
BELMONT — Belmont is alone atop the Six Rivers Conference softball standings. Coach Jeff Hodgson’s Division 5 #1-ranked Braves avenged its only loss of the season — up to that point — with a dominating 6–0 shutout at Barneveld Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Carsyn Ramaker struck out six and allowed  just two walks in the four-hit shutout, while senior Morgan Freeman and sophomore Lexi Reichers each slugged homers for the visiting Braves.

Freeman opened the scoring with a two-run blast in the top of the first inning, driving in senior catcher Kaci Riechers who singled earlier in the inning, to give the Braves an early lead. Jaelyn Leitzinger walked to lead off the third, moved to second on a sac bunt by Addy McNett  and third on a wild pitch. She later scored on a sac fly by Ramaker to make it 3–0.

A pair of Barneveld errors opened the door for another Belmont run in the fourth inning as Emily Reuter scored on a two-out RBI single by McNett to extend the lead to 4–0.

Lexi Reichers’ solo homer in the fifth made it 5–0 and Belmont capped the scoring in the top of the sixth when Kaci Riechers singled to left field and later scored when Freeman reached on a passed ball on a dropped third strike.

Ramaker’s only real trouble on the day came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Hannah Esch singled with one out, and Kaylie Oimoen drew a five-pitch walk, but the Belmont sophomore got out of the line out to Leitzinger at second base and an inning-ending strikeout.

Belmont (19–2) improved to 13–1 in the Six Rivers with its seventh-straight the win since a 9–3 loss to Barneveld on April 24, while the Golden Eagles fell to 13–4 overall and 12–2 in conference play.
