First-year Cassville/Potosi co-op places 2nd (girls) and 3rd (boys) at conference

Cassville/Potosi junior Ashley Williams won the girls 10 hurdles (pictured), finished second in the 300 hurdles and the 4x400 relay, and fourth in the pole vault at Mondays Six Rivers Conference meet.

PLATTEVILLE — The Cassville/Potosi girls’ track and field team finished second of eight teams with 127 total points, while the boys’ team finished third with 135.5 total points at Monday’s Six Rivers Conference meet held on the campus of UW–Platteville.

Winning both team titles was the tri-op of Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg, who scored 161 points on the boys’ team, and 159 for the girls.

Leading the Cassville/Potosi girls’ team Monday night was Anna Kartman, who finished first in the long jump (16’3”) and the triple jump (33’0.25”), as well as second in the 100 (13.17). She also anchored the winning 4x100 relay team (54.13), which also included Maggie Schmitz, Lydia Reynolds and Brittany Horner.

Earning first place in the 100 hurdles was Ashley Williams (16.80), as well as a second-place finish in the 300 hurdles (50.31) and a fourth-place finish in the pole vault (7’0”). Williams was also a member of the second-place 4x400 relay (4:29.69), which also included Lily Reynolds, Lydia Reynolds and Anna Kruser.

Kruser also placed second in the 800 (2:30.81), while Ally Ihm finished third in the 1600 (5:57.98) and the 3200 (13:08.87). 

The Cassville/Potosi boys were led by Colin Esser, who placed first in the 100 (11.68) and the long jump (22’1.5”), second in the 200 (23.47) and third in the discus (128’7”). 

Dylan Duvall brought home a first-place finish in the 110 hurdles (16.01) and a second-place finish in the 300 hurdles (43.91), while Gunnar Stappert placed third in the high jump (5’2”).

Ty Bausch placed second in the triple jump (38’10.75”), third in the long jump (19’6”), fourth in the 100 (:12.24), and was a member of the second-place 4x100 relay (:47.85), along with Tyler Thingvold, Evan Bloyer and Jeffrey Jacobson.

Andrew Mckillip placed fourth in the discus (121’3”) and fifth in the shot put (39’11”), and Evan Bloyer was fourth in the 200 (:23.73).

Nelson Bauer placed third in the 1,600 (5:00.39) and   fifth in the 3,200 (11:06.36).

The co-op team will next compete in the division 3 Lancaster Regional on Monday, May 20.

Comets  compete at Sparky Reynolds Invite

BOSCOBEL — At the 39th Annual Steve “Sparkey” Reynolds Memorial Invite held last Friday, the competition was stiff and points were hard to come by for area teams.

Even still, there were a number of athletes who rose above the competition to score valuable points for their team.

On the boys’ side, Lancaster finished second of 22 competing teams with 70.5 total points, coming up 12.5 points short of the top team from Dodgeville/Mineral Point. Cassville/Potosi finished tied for ninth with 34 total points, while River Ridge was 11th with 31 points.

The top finisher for the Cassville/Potosi boys’ team was Esser in the discus, who finished second with a throw of 132’1”.

Fourth-place finishes were captured by Duvall in the 110 hurdles (16.43), the 4x100 relay team of Jacobson, Bloyer, Bausch and Esser (46.46) and the 4x200 relay team of Bloyer, Bausch, Esser and Gunnar Stappert (1:35.92).

Bloyer also established a new school record in the 200 with a time of 23.8 in his preliminary race, and finished fifth in the final with a time of 24.0.

On the girls’ side, Lancaster finished fourth of 21 teams with 53 total points, while Cassville/Potosi placed sixth with 43 points, and River Ridge tied for 12th with 29 points.

Leading the Cassville/Potosi girls’ team with a second-place finish in the 100 hurdles (16.41) and a third-place finish in the 300 hurdles (49.97) was Williams.

Kartman brought home third-place finishes in the 100 (:13.20) and the triple jump (33’3.75”), establishing a new school record in the triple jump.

Kruser finished fourth in the 800 and established a new school record with her time of 2:28.14, while also finishing fifth in the 200 (:29.25).
