Wildcats run away with boys title at Clayton Ridge Invite

The Southwestern/Cuba City/Benton boys' cross country team won the team title at the Clayton Ridge Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 5 as the Wildcats placed five runners in the top 10 to run away with first place with 19 points.

GUTTENBERG, Iowa — The Southwestern/Cuba City/Benton boys' cross country team placed its top five runners in the top 10 — all finishing within 41 seconds of each other — to run away with tht team title at the nine-team Clayton Ridge Invitational held at the Guttenberg Golf Course on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Senior Preston Bousley placed second overall in a time of 18:10 to lead the Wildcats to a first-place finish with 19 team points. Seniors Weston Morley (18:15) and Aaron Pulvermacher (18:21) came in third and fourth, respectively, for the ‘Cats, while senior Josh Redfearn placed seventh (18:38) and junior Isaac Erschen followed in eighth (18:51) to complete the team finish.

The Lady Wildcats placed ninth in the girls’ varsity race with 252 points. Sophomore Carmen Brant placed 54th overall in 27:37 to lead the way for the tri-op. Senior Staci Reynolds was 58th (28:22), followed by sophomore Claira Droessler in 76th (33:42), junior Becca Kitelinger in 80th (35:15) and junior Grace Gaber in 81st (35:43).

Edgewood/Colesburg senior Jacob Wessel won the varsity boys’ race in 17:35, while Central Community junior Ciera Deitchler won the varsity girls’ race in 20:04.

The Wildcats also won the boys’ junior varsity race with 15 points behind a 1-2 finish for senior David Germaine (19:49) and freshman Ethan Pickel (20:54). Tri-op eighth-grader Kayci Martensen finished first (11:05) in the junior high girls’ two-mile race at the meet.

At Spring Green, on Saturday, Sept. 9, the Wildcats finished 16th in the varsity boys’ large school division at the River Valley Invitational.

  The SW/CC/B tri-op will compete at the Cascade Invitational to be held at the Fillmore Fairways Country Club on Friday, Sept. 15, starting at 4 p.m.
