The Vernon County Farm Service Agency is hosting a MPP-Dairy meeting  Nov. 14 from 1-3 p.m. at the Vernon Memorial Healthcare Building, Lower Level Conference Room A, located at 507 South Main Street in Viroqua.  The meeting is free and open to the public.

Meeting attendees will learn about the Margin Protection Program for Dairy (MPP-Dairy) authorized by the 2014 Farm Bill through Dec. 31, 2018.  Registration for this program began  Sept. 2 and will run through Nov. 28.  The MPP-Dairy Program is a voluntary risk management program for dairy producers and offers protection to those producers when the difference between the all milk price and the average feed cost (known as the margin) falls below a certain dollar amount selected by the producer.

Kevin Bernhardt, Farm Management Specialist UW-Extension and a Professor of Agribusiness at UW-Platteville will explain how the program is designed to work, demonstrate the on-line MPP tool, http://dairymarkets.org/MPP/Tool/ and what you need to consider in evaluating different coverage options.  Katharine Lewison, Vernon County FSA Director will be in attendance to answer any questions on documentation needed and how FSA will assist dairy producers in applying for this program.

For more information, please contact Lewison at 608-637-2183, extension 4.
