The Hillsboro Police Department has investigated three  different reports of thefts in recent weeks.

According to an Aug. 13 post on the department’s Facebook page, the thefts are occurring in the early morning hours. Some of the items stolen were either in parked, unlocked vehicles, inside residents’ unlocked homes, or on the outside porches of their homes.

An unknown suspect was spotted on foot at approximately 4 a.m. Aug. 12 The reporting party was alerted by their house dog, and witnessed a male subject flee the scene on foot in the neighborhood of Hillsborough and Klondike avenues.

Six days later, on Aug. 18, Hillsboro resident Joseph “Chub” Bruha Jr. reported a lawn mower stolen from his residence at 930 S.  Mitscher Ave.

Police Chief Thomas Richardson urges anyone with any information regarding these incidents to contact the Hillsboro Police Department non-emergency number, 608-489-2800.

Richardson also asks Hillsboro residents to watch out for their property as well as their neighbors’ property, especially in the early morning hours.

Suspicious activity should be reported to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office at 911 or 1-800-637-2123. Please do not use the Hillsboro Police Department number, as it is not monitored 24 hours a day like the Sheriff’s Office number.
