The man accused of robbing Domino’s Pizza in Platteville Dec. 19 pleaded to a charge amended from the charge he originally faced in Grant County Circuit Court in Lancaster.

Ryan J. Barthel, 39, Madison, pleaded no contest Thursday to a charge of robbery with threat of force. He had previously waived a preliminary hearing on a charge of armed robbery in January, according to court records.

Barthels now faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a $50,000 fine, down from the original 40 years in prison and $100,000 fine.

Employees of Dominos Pizza, 490 E. Business 151, told Platteville police that Dec. 19 around 2:15 a.m. a man with his face painted black and armed with a knife robbed the store of cash and left in a dark-colored vehicle east on Business 151.

Shortly after that, according to police, a clerk at a Mineral Point business told a Mineral Point police officer that someone had been in his business washing his face. The officer alerted the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department, which stopped the vehicle.

A search of Barthel revealed a knife, black boot polish, and cash, according to police.

Barthel is free on $5,000 cash bond.
