Dalton R. Mikkelson, foreground, was in Vernon County Circuit Court on Thursday, Sept. 10 with his attorney, Todd Shroeder, for his initial appearance on charges resulting from a fatal traffic accident, which occurred on Highway 14 near Readstown on April 12.  Mikkelson is charged with vehicular homicide in the death of Preston D. Nelson, among other charges. It is alleged that Mikkelson, 17, Viroqua, was the driver of a truck racing another truck driven by Nelson, 19, Soldiers Grove, when the accident occurred. Two passengers in Nelson’s truck were injured. At the request of the defense attorney, Judge Michael Rosborough granted Mikkelson an adjourned initial appearance, which is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 11 a.m.
