Driver, vehicle in Sunday hit and run identified

DARLINGTON – The Lafayette County Sheriff’s office found the vehicle involved in a hit and run accident between the vehicle and a buggy that happened early Sunday, Sept. 15.

A 2015 GMC Acadia driven by Jennifer L. Mckee, 33, of Warren, Ill., was identified Tuesday, Sept. 17 after receiving an anonymous tip.

Just before 3 a.m. in the 17000 block of STH 81, in the town of Darlington, an open buggy, being pulled by a single horse, was traveling eastbound, driven by Joseph S. King, 20, Darlington when the buggy was struck from behind by an eastbound vehicle. King, the buggy and the horse were all thrown into the south ditch.

The eastbound vehicle did not stop and fled the scene. King was able to make contact with a nearby residence who called 911 to report the crash.

King sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County. The horse was killed in the crash and the buggy was severely damaged.

No charges have been issued at this time, as the crash remains under investigation.
