Two communities in Lafayette County will be celebrating the Fourth of July with annual festivals: Wiota on June 28-July 1 and Shullsburg on June 30-July 4.
Wiota
The 42nd annual Wiota Firemen’s Fourth of July Celebration will kick off with ball games at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, in the park. That night “Long Hard Ride” will perform in the beer tent. On Friday night, June 29, the ball games continue at 7 p.m. with “Long Hard Ride” returning from 7 p.m.–midnight in the beer tent.
On Saturday, June 30, ball games and volleyball start at 9 a.m. Then at 11 a.m. a kid’s tractor pull will start for children ages 3-10. Sign-up for the kid’s tractor pull starts at 10 a.m. The event is sponsored by the Wiota John Deere Collectors Club. Throughout the day air rides will be available as well as bingo, nickel pitch, fish pond and music in the beer tent.
Then, starting at 8 p.m. T.K.O will take to the stage and play until midnight.
Sunday’s festivities include a 9:30 a.m. church service in the park, a car show from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and a parade starting at noon. New to the festival, the Antiques Road Show will be held at the school house starting at 1:30 p.m. Contact Stuart Seffrood at (608) 574-7914 for more information.
Following the parade will be ball games, bingo, nickel pitch, fish pond, Wiota John Deere Collectors Club display at Wiota Church and championship volleyball.
The variety show will kick off at 6:30 p.m. and the raffle and awards will take place at 9 p.m. “Long Hard Ride” will resume entertaining in the beer tent.
A fireworks display will take place at dusk.
Shullsburg
The annual Fourth of July celebration in Shullsburg has four days of events planned.
Starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, will be Bingo Bonanza ($20 for 20 games). At 8 p.m. will be Minute to Win It and live music by The Wundo Band will commence at 9 p.m. in the beer tent. On Sunday, July 1, the softball and kickball tournaments will continue along with carnival rides, games, concessions and the beer tent.
The Firemen’s Pork Supper from 4:30-7:30 p.m. will kick off the Tuesday, July 3, events. Live music by “Goodnight Nobody” will be on the talent stage featuring Eric Kjelland and Arthur Ranney. The talent show will take place at 7 p.m. and Red Bomber will be the DJ in the beer tent that night.
On July 4, food stands, cheese curd and bingo will be available all day. The parade will start at 10:30 a.m. and a dunk tank will run from noon-4:30 p.m. Free kid games will start at 1 p.m., the fire department kids water fights start at 2 p.m. and the free petting zoo will run from 2-6 p.m. A kid’s tractor pull will start at 4 p.m. and live music from “Sunshine Band” will be at 6 p.m. The annual pie auction will begin at 7:30 p.m. followed by a raffle drawing at 8:30 p.m. and fireworks at 9:45 p.m. “Hot Rod” will DJ in the beer tent.
Each day will also feature softball and kickball tournaments, carnival rides, games, concessions and a beer tent with a food stand. Monday, July 2, is reserved for a rain date for ball games. Saturday, July 7, is the rain date for fireworks.
