Life in Lafayette
ARGYLE – On Thursday, March 15 at 7 p.m., Sgt. Tony Ruesga of the Darlington Police Department will present “Hispanics in Lafayette County”. The rapid increase in the Hispanic population of Wisconsin’s rural areas are reshaping work, school and social life, but also are raising concerns that Spanish-speaking immigrants are often isolated and mistrusted.  Darlington Police Sgt. and Lafayette County Board Member, Tony Ruesga has been fostering better relationships between newcomers and long-time residents for over a decade.

American Legion Birthday Supper
DARLINGTON – Darlington American Legion Post 214 will hold its Annual American Legion Birthday Supper on Saturday, March 17 at the Legion Post.  All Legion, Auxiliary and SAL members are welcomed to attend.  Social Hour will be from 6-7 p.m. with supper being served at 7 p.m.  The Post is furnishing the meat and everyone is asked to bring a dish to pass and their own table service.  Come and enjoy an evening with friends, meet the 2017 Badger Boys and Girls State Representatives and hear about what is going to be happening at the Post.  Always a fun and relaxing night.
Belmont FFA Auction
BELMONT – Belmont Friends of FFA will have their 20th Annual Auction on Sunday, March 18 at noon in the Belmont School Commons. All proceeds from this auction go to support the Ag Youth. Lunch stand available. This is a labor auction with a large variety of sale items.
Driver Opera benefit event
DARLINGTON – A benefit event for the Driver Opera House will be David Drake “Blowing in the Wind” a sing-along concert of Classic Folk Songs from the 1960’s on Sunday, March 18 at the American Legion Hall starting at 1:00 p.m. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. $10/person at the door.
Bluebird Nest Nature Center
DARLINGTON – Nathan Wiegel, Middle School Science teacher at Darlington Elementary Middle School, will be the first speaker of 2018 at the Bluebird Nest Nature Center, 308 Main Street, Darlington, on Monday, March 19, at 7:00 p.m. He will be discussing Wisconsin’s unique Driftless area. Join him for an interesting evening of exploring Wisconsin. His program will be the first of many in 2018. Be sure to pick up a copy of the new program schedule. The Bluebird Nest Nature Center is sponsored by the Lafayette County Bluebird Society. There is no charge for any programming but donations are always appreciated.
Bluebird Nest Nature Center
DARLINGTON –Have you thought about adding an Eastern Bluebird nest box to your property? Carol McDaniel will be on hand on March 21, the opening day of the Bluebird Nest Nature Center from 1-4 p.m., to answer your questions about bluebirds. Carol has worked with these beautiful birds for many years. The afternoon will provide a great opportunity for everyone to get involved in this worthwhile hobby.

Community Blood Drive
LAFAYETTE COUNTY - The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to resolve to give blood regularly. Sixteen year olds are accepted with parental consent. New donors must bring a photo ID and another form of ID. Senior Citizen’s Appreciation Dinner
 SHULLSBURG – Shullsburg Schools will host the 29th Annual Senior Citizen’s Appreciation Dinner on March 21 at the school in the old gym. This dinner is for Shullsburg senior citizens. We ask that you arrive at 11:30 a.m. with dinner to be served at noon. There is no charge for this dinner, and our students will provide musical entertainment. If you need a ride, we will be happy to provide one for you.
Severe Weather Safety and Spotter Training
DARLINGTON – There will be a 2018 Severe Weather Safety and Spotter training on Wednesday, March 21 at the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The training is free and open to the public. No registration is needed. The first hour will be about severe weather safety and the second is the spotter training. All are welcome to attend both sessions. The event is sponsored by Lafayette County Emergency Management.
Band Aid X: Tunes n’ Taverns
DARLINGTON – Memorial Hospital Auxiliary presents Band Aid X: Tunes n’ Taverns pub crawl on Friday, March 23 at local bars in Darlington. Participating bars are Legion Hall, Bridgeview, Darlington Country Club, The Spot, Mikes’s Corner Bar, Annies Bar & Grill, Trailside Bar, City Service Brewing, Salathe’s Saloon, and Legends. Wristbands are $25 for all 10 taverns or $5 per Tavern.
Breakfast with Easter Bunny
BELMONT – Come to the Belmont Elementary School Gym on Saturday, March 24 for Breakfast with the Easter Bunny from 9-11 a.m. There will be face painting, crafts, candy hunt and door prizes. Juice, milk, and baked goods provided for everyone. Don’t forget your camera for pictures with the Easter Bunny.
Belmont Fish Fry
BELMONT – The Belmont American Legion & Belmont Sportsmen will be having a Fish Fry on Saturday, March 24 from 5-8 p.m. at the Sports Page in Belmont. Adults are $10, kids under 12 are $6.
Shullsburg Easter Egg Hunt
SHULLSBURG – The Shullsburg Miner Community Group will be hosting an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 31 at 10 a.m. at the Badger Park in Shullsburg. If rain it will be held at the Centenary United Methodist Church. 4th grade & under, accompanied by an adult are invited to bring their baskets to collect the plastic eggs and turn them in for treats and prizes. Sign up to win one of four youth bikes donated by Saunders Oil.
