New minister in Hazel Green
Hazel Green Methodist Church
By Dani Mumm
The Hazel Green United Methodist Church welcomes Glenda McCracken as its new minister. Glenda started at the Hazel Green United Methodist Church on July 1 and held her first service on July 14.
Glenda lived in Tennessee and moved to Wisconsin 11 years ago. She was a public school teacher in Tennessee for 30 years and taught at Parkview in Wisconsin for eight years before retiring. She then did mission work, traveled, and helped out at a local church before becoming a minister.
“I wanted to be able to have a relationship with anyone and bring hope into the world,” said Glenda. “ There are people who do care and the church cares. We have so many hours in the week. We can give up one a hour a week to build ourselves spiritually.”
Glenda currently resides in Orfordville, Wis. She comes to Hazel Green on Wednesdays and Sundays. “My husband, Leslie, is looking for a small dairy farm,” said Glenda. “ Everyone is keeping their eyes open for something for us. We are hoping to find something closer to Hazel Green to cut the drive down. If it’s meant to be, it will happen.”
Glenda looks forward to getting to know the people of Hazel Green.
“The community is very inviting,” said Glenda. “ I plan to do more exploring in Hazel Green as I haven’t gotten the chance to yet. The congregation has been welcoming and I’m excited to be part of the awesome church in the corner.”
Glenda enjoys reading, working in her vegetable garden, and relaxing on her swing at home during her free time. She has a daughter Christina McCracken, a son John Joesph McCracken, and a guardian son Jeffery Rutter. She is expecting her first grandchild in August. “We are very excited,” said Glenda.
The Hazel Green United Methodist Church is located on 1920 Percival St. in Hazel Green. Sunday worship is at 9:30 a.m.
