Vernon County law enforcement aims to reduce speed related crashes

From July 28-31, the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua and four county police departments–Viroqua, Hillsboro, La Farge, and Readstown–will have extra officers patrolling certain areas within their jurisdictions to reduce speed related crashes.

The joint enforcement effort is made possible by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) funding administered by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation-Bureau of Transportation Safety.

The goal is to reduce speed related crashes through voluntary compliance of area motorists. Though the officers' primary efforts will be directed toward speeding, they are enforcing all traffic laws to include seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving.
