A thunderstorm moving through the area in the early morning hours of July 13 downed a tree at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery on Water Ave., across from Hillsboro Lake. The storm was part of a pattern of widespread severe weather throughout southern Wisconsin. Trees and power lines were down in Sauk and Columbia counties, but no injuries were reported. Columbus, in Columbia County, was hardest hit, with straight line winds of between 90-110 miles per hour.
