Winners announced in fire prevention poster contest

DICKEYVILLE—The Grant County winners of the 2016 fire prevention poster contest were awarded certificates and prize money at a ceremony at the Dickeyville-Paris Fire Department on April 11. The contest is open to students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Those winning first in their grade level at the local fire departments move on to the county competition. The posters placing first in each grade level at the county level proceed to the state contest.

This year three Grant County competitors placed in the state contest: fifth grader Diana Herbers of St. Mary School in Bloomington received third at state; seventh grader Kaitlyn Kirschbaum of Lancaster middle School in Lancaster received first at state; and eighth grader Molly Schmitt of Holy Ghost-Immaculate Conception School in Dickeyville received second at state.

The following Grant County students were county level winners in the 2016 fire prevention poster contest:
