Then it’s on to the beautiful Phoenix Raceway, a one-mile paved track in Avondale Arizona, where the USAC Silver Crown cars will companion with the Indy Car Series
“I can’t wait for 2017 to get started. We had fun in 2016. I’m getting better on dirt,” offered Byrne, upon reflecting on the past year. “If not for a few mechanical things and a couple of tire issues, we could have been a Top 3 Championship contender. We should be in great shape to contend for the championship in 2017 with a big goal of visiting victory lane again.”
USAC Silver Crown Series offers a diverse schedule of pavement and dirt tracks ranging from half-mile ovals on both surfaces to as big as a mile in length.
For Byrne, the 2016 season was a great experience with several tracks new to David and the Byrne Racing Team. The 2017 campaign is one where Byrne looks to emerge as a title contender within USAC’s premier tour and perhaps visit victory lane on more than one occasion.
“You go out there every race knowing you can win and you do your best to win,” continued Byrne. “I’ll win more; I just need to be patient. I’m really excited to run the entire USAC Silver Crown Series schedule and take a shot at the championship.”
In addition to the USAC Silver Crown Series schedule, Byrne will also run in select Winged Pavement Sprint Car events throughout the country.
Steve Byrne, car owner and David’s father, added, “Our team has really come together in the past couple of years. “Chuy (James Sandberg), our car chief, really has gone to the next level to give David a great car every time on the track. Every detail of the car is checked and re-checked before it leaves the shop.
David has become more of a racer. It truly is a joy to watch him race, a little nerve racking at times but nice to be able to give him the equipment that utilizes his talent. The 2017 season should be fun to see if we can build on the successes of the last three years, and we’re really looking forward to that next win.”
