Post offices throughout the U.S. will be taking part in the 21st annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive this week.

Mail carriers will be delivering bags before Friday, with collection Saturday, May 11. Residents are asked to donate non-perishable food items, such as canned soup, canned vegetables, peanut butter, pasta, rice or cereal, to be picked up by mail carriers Saturday. Platteville letter carriers will deliver donations to the Platteville Food Pantry.

The food drive, sponsored by the U.S. Postal Service, the National Association of Letter Carriers and Campbell Soup Co. benefits Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief organization. In 2012 Americans donated more than 70 million pounds of food.
