Two Hillsboro teens injured in accident
Driver goes over embankment after failing to stop at stop sign

Vernon County Sheriff John Spears reported a one vehicle rollover accident that occurred at State Hwy. 33 and Briskey Road in the Town of Hillsboro June 9 at approximately 6:51 p.m.

The driver, Raymond Smith Jr, 19, along with passenger Morgan Bejster, 19, both of Hillsboro,  were southbound on Briskey Road. They failed to stop at the stop sign on Briskey Road crossed State Hwy. 33 going down an embankment through a fence and overturned in a corn field. The vehicle came to rest on its top and both occupants were able to get out of the vehicle.

Smith was transported to Gundersen St. Joseph’s Hospital in the City of Hillsboro. He was later transferred to Gundersen Medical Center in LaCrosse with unknown injuries.

Bejster was also transported to Gundersen St. Joseph’s, where she was treated and released.

It does not appear that Smith was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. Bejster was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Assisting the Sheriff’s Office were the Hillsboro Police Department, Hillsboro Fire Department, Hillsboro EMS, Tri-State Ambulance, and the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The accident remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol.
