A vehicle fire happened May 18 at approximately 5:46 p.m. on N. Asbury Road in the Town of Viroqua.

According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, Joseph Menne,  77 of rural Viroqua, was eastbound when he heard a loud bang and saw flames burst through the floorboard and dashboard of his vehicle. The flames struck him in the face and burned some of his hair but he complained of no injuries and refused medical treatment.

He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames when the Viroqua Fire Department arrived.

The accident remains under investigation.
