Bertha T. McMillan, age 96 years, of Hillsboro, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

She was born on April 2, 1919 to Samuel and Anna (Solchenberger) McMillan in the Town of Greenwood, Vernon County, Wisconsin.  She attended McKenzie School until the 8th grade and then began working for the neighbors, doing house and field work.

In 1944 Bertha and her mother, Anna began working together in the laundry at the hospital in Hillsboro.  Later Bertha then worked in the kitchen at the hospital as a dietary aide.

Bertha enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, feeding the birds and enjoyed all animals in general.  She was a long time member of the Hillsboro Area Historical Society, Hillsboro Senior Citizens and the St. Aloysius Catholic Church and volunteered in many community activities.  Bertha didn’t drive, so she could often be seen walking to various locations in Hillsboro.

Her family all preceded her in death, her parents; four sisters, Mayme, Agnes, Margaret and Sophia; and two brothers, Malcolm and Clarence.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hillsboro, with Father Don Bauer officiating.  Burial will be in the Mount Vernon Cemetery in Hillsboro.  Friends may call at the Church on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m.  The Picha Funeral Home is assisting the family.
