Fred Kamps

Frederick R. Kamps, 86, of Belmont, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 22, 2017 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Platteville. Rev. Joel Voss officiated. Burial was at the Belmont Cemetery, where military rites were accorded. Friends could call from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2017 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to be directed to the WELS World Mission or St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fred’s name. Fred was born on Jan. 15, 1932 in Platteville to Albert and Frieda (Saxmann) Kamps. He graduated from Belmont High School in 1950. In 1954 he was drafted into the United States Army and served as a communications specialist in Germany until 1956. On Sept. 24, 1960 he married Diana Pohlman at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Rome, Wis. Together they farmed in Elk Grove Township. He was a life-long member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Fred is survived by seven children: Steve Kamps of Belmont, Kathy (Jim) Shaver of Mims, Fla., Karla Kamps (Gary Korman) of Neosho, Connie (Greg) Draheim of Oconto, Eric Kamps of Cuba City, Robert (Melissa) Kamps of Belmont, and Philip Kamps of Cuba City; nine grandchildren, Amanda, Sara, Zach, Brian, Kalyn (Christopher) Baird, Kari, Kari Ann, Lane and Luke; one sister, Elinor (Eberhard) Weickert of Sarasota, Fla. and a sister-in-law, Delores Kamps of Belmont. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diana who died March 23, 2003; his brother George Kamps in 1996; his father in 1970 and his mother in 1994.
