After 30 years of a determined struggle as a quadriplegic, Stanley Dean Nofsinger lost the struggle at age 57 years on Feb. 20, 2015 at University Hospital in Madison, Wis.

Stan was born March 14, 1957 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hillsboro, Wis. to Dorville and Evelyn (Suchoman) Nofsinger.  He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1975.  He attended La Crosse Technical College studying auto mechanics for one year and then went to work for his dad at Dorv’s Concrete Construction until a motorcycle accident in September 1985 left him a quadriplegic.

He was married on April 7, 1984 to Renita “Kay” Farrell and had one child Ashley, born in January 1986.  He loved his family very much.  With the help and leadership of his Dad and George Kelbel and the support of the whole area Better Days or the Walk Back Center Rehab was built and then managed by Stan and his caregiver, Ron Malchaski.  For over twenty years, Stan got great satisfaction from helping people who were handicapped like himself.  He took great pride in all the help that was given at the Walk Back Center.

Stan loved to bowl and to hunt.  He was very excited when Ron and Barb Brunner gave him the opportunity to go west and hunt antelope and deer in 2013.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Nofsinger; grandparents; and various cousins.

He will be greatly missed by his loving family, daughter Ashley Nofsinger; brother, Steve (Lila) Nofsinger; father, Dorville (Barb) Nofsinger; and special friend Kay Starr.

A Memorial Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro.  Friends may call on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m.  For online information go to www.pichafuneralhomes.com
