Darlington senior Jesse Sturtz and the SWAL champion Redbirds will have a first-round bye when the WIAA regional playoffs begin today. Darlington will host the winner of today's Orfordville Parkview vs. New Glarus matchup in a D4 regional semifinal on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

PREP BASEBALL: WIAA regional quarterfinals, Thursday, May 25

      The WIAA regional playoffs begin this afternoon with games throughout the state, including a number of area matchups. The winners of today’s regional quarterfinals will advance to Tuesday’s regional semifinals. The regional finals will be held next Wednesday. Here are a look at local first-round match-ups.

#1 Prairie du Chien (18–2) has a first-round bye

      The WIAA regional playoffs began Tuesday and the regional finals will be played Friday afternoon. Here are the regional final pairings in the southwest part of the state. Friday’s winners will advance to next Tuesday’s sectional semifinal round.

BOYS GOLF: WIAA sectionals 

    WIAA Division 2 Viroqua/North Crawford Sectional (at Viroqua Hills Golf Course), Wednesday, May 31, 9 a.m.

     Participating teams: Platteville (319), Richland Center (370), Dodgeville (370), River Valley (370) 

     Madison Edgewood (302), Egerton (333), Mount Horeb (338) and Monroe (346) at Evansville regional 

     Lodi (303), Lakeside Lutheran (324), Waupun (330), Watertown Luther Prep (346) at Jefferson regional

     The top two teams and top three individual not on a qualifying team will advance to the WIAA Division 2 State Tournament that will be held June 5-6 at University Ridge near Madison.

 

     The Southwest Wisconsin Conference champion Hillmen have dominated the regular season, winning multiple tournaments, a conference championship and last week’s Platteville regional title, but an elusive berth in next week’s WIAA Division 2 state tournament is the final remaining goal. The Hillmen shot a combined 319 on their home course on Wednesday to win its regional, but will face major challenges from Evansville regional champion Madison Edgewood and Jefferson regional champ Lodi for one of the two team state berths at Wednesday’s D2 Viroqua/North Crawford sectional.

 

 

TRACK & FIELD: WIAA sectionals

    WIAA Division 2 McFarland Sectional, Thursday, May 25, 3:45 p.m.

     Area athletes from Dodgeville/Mineral Point, Lancaster, Platteville, Prairie du Chien, Richland Center and River Valley will be competing in today’s D2 McFarland sectional with a chance to go to state. The top four four finishers in each event will advance to next week’s WIAA State Tournament that will be held at UW–La Crosse June 2-3.

 

WIAA Division 3 Bangor Sectional,Thursday, May 25, 3:30 p.m.

     Area athletes from Belmont, Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg, Black Hawk, Cassville, Cuba City, Darlington, Potosi, Southwestern, Boscobel, Fennimore, Ithaca, North Crawford, River Ridge, Riverdale, Seneca and Wauzeka–Steuben will be competing at today’s D3 Bangor sectional with a chance to qualify for next week’s state championships. The top four four finishers in each event will advance to next week’s WIAA State Tournament that will be held at UW–La Crosse June 2-3.
