NORTH CRAWFORD - Well, the North Crawford boys basketball team earned a split last week.

Things started rough for the Trojans on the road at Wauzeka.

Actually, North Crawford was hanging tough with the Hornets for most of the first half. Then, with three minutes to go until halftime, the wheels fell off.

The Trojans committed three straight turnovers, which led to a pair of three pointers and a dunk by Hornets’ star Gavin Ralph. Ralph went on to finish the night with a very impressive double-double of 26 points and 17 rebounds.

The score at halftime was Hornets 30 Trojans 18. The final score was Wauzeka-Steuben 63 and North Crawford 45.

Junior Stephen Munson led the Trojans in scoring with 17 points and Devlin Smith scored 12 points and led the team in rebounds with seven.

Rounding out the scoring for North Crawford were Quentin Lathrop with six points, Garrett Finnell with four points and Keegan Bender with two points.

For the Hornets, Garrett Kapinus scored 15 points and Carter Lomas had 10.

What a difference a day makes…North Crawford was an inhospitable host to Hillsboro on Friday, Jan. 22, as the Trojans laid a 49-19 drubbing on the visiting Tigers.

“It was a nice bounce-back win for us,” North Crawford coach Chris Wettstein said of the Hillsboro game. The Tigers were held to just 16 percent shooting from the field.

Trojan senior guard Quentin Lathrop led all scorers with 20 points, while Stephen Munson had 10 points and led the team in rebounds with eight. He also led the team in assists with seven and steals with six.

North Crawford’s big post player Sever Stovey scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Garrett Finnell scored five points, while Keegan Bender and Devlin Smith each scored four points.

At the end of the week, North Crawford’s overall record was 6-4 and their record in the Ridge and Valley Conference was 4-3.
