Lady Wariors stampede Ponies in twinbill
BHHSGSB238
BLACK HAWK catcher Maddy Huschitt applies the tag to a Juda/Albany runner for the final out of the sixth inning in Tuesdays Six Rivers East clash in South Wayne. The Panthers held off a late rally by the Warriors to hang on for a 3-1 win.

BARNEVELD — Sophomore pitcher Hannah Butler posted two victories in the pitcher’s circle, including a combined no-hitter with teammate Savannah Burmeister in game one, and her teammates provided her with plenty of run support as Black Hawk Warriors rolled over the Monticello Ponies, 15-0 and 17-1, in a Six Rivers East softball doubleheader played on Monday, May 7.
    H. Butler (6-4) and Burmeister teamed up to toss the Lady Warriors’ second non-hitter of the season in game one as they were near perfect en route to a five-inning shutout. Neither pitcher allowed a hit or a walk in the game as the only two Ponies to reach base did so via errors.
    H. Butler struck out four batters on four innings of work to earn the win, while Burmeister wrapped up the no-no with twirl a perfect fifth with two Ks.
Mia Jackson doubled and drove in four runs to lead the Warriors (9-5 overall, 8-5 SRC) at the plate. Lauren Schultz finished 2-for-4 with a double and two runs, while H. Butler helped her own cause by scoring three times and driving in two runs.
Maddy Huschitt and Macie Stauffacher each added two RBI for the Warriors, who plastered runs up on the scoreboard in every turn at bat on Tuesday.
Nine players scored runs and nine drove in runs for Black Hawk in game two led by Hannah Herbst who was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a RBI and H. Butler who went 2-for-2 with four runs and a RBI.
Schultz added two more hits and Jackson had two runs and a RBI, while Bailey Butler blasted a two-run home run and Natalie Leuzinger scored three times for the Warriors.
    H. Butler scattered four hits and allowed a run while fanning five batters without a walk.
At South Wayne, on Tuesday, May 8, the defending Division 4 state champion Juda/Albany Panthers held off a late rally by the host Warriors to remain unbeaten in Six Rivers East play with a 3-1 victory behind a stellar pitching performance by ace Nicki Becker.
The Panthers plated single runs in the first, second and fifth innings to put Black Hawk in a 3-0 hole, and the guests took that same lead into the bottom of the seventh inning.
With one down, Hannah Butler gave the hosts a bit of life with a ringing double to centerfield, and then Natalie Leuzinger followed with a bloop single to left to bring in Butler for a run.
However, Becker buckled down and struck out the next two Warriors she faced to preserve the victory for the Panthers. She finished the game with 17 Ks and no walks.
The hits by Butler and Leuzinger in the seventh were the team’s only hits of the game. A fielding error, which allowed Hannah Herbst to reach base in the fourth frame, broke up Becker’s perfect game bid.
Brianna Crull went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for the Panthers, who locked up their fourth straight Six Rivers East titles with wins over Belmont and River Ridge/Cassville on Thursday. Hailey Kammerer scored a run and drove in another for the guests.
Black Hawk non-conference game against Darlington on Friday, May 11, was cancelled due to rain and will not be made up.
The Warriors will host Shullsburg/Benton in a Six Rivers game on Thursday, May 17 (5 p.m.), and will head to Dodgeville for a non-conference make-up game on Friday, May 18 (5 p.m.).
The WIAA Division 5 tournament will begin with regional quarterfinal games on Tuesday, May 22, regional semifinal games on Wednesday, May 23, and regional final games on Friday, May 25. The results of the seeding meetings will not be released until Wednesday, May 16, or Thursday, May 17, on the WIAA website.
