Potosi sophomore hits two grand slams in 181 victory over River Ridge

Potosi sophomore Shae Siegert clobbered two grand slam home runs during last Tuesday's 181 victory at River Ridge and finished with eight RBIs.

PATCH GROVE – With a 10-run rally in the top of the third inning, followed by a seven-run rally in the top of the fourth, the Potosi Chieftains made short work of host River Ridge last Tuesday night in Six Rivers West conference softball action.

The visiting Chieftains left town with a convincing 18-1 victory over the Timberwolves, which improved to Reba Keene’s squad to a Six Rivers West conference record of 6-3.

After scoring one run in the top of the first inning, the Chieftains blew the game wide open with 10 runs in the top of the third off four hits, two walks, two errors, a fielder’s choice and one hit batter.

In the third, Potosi sophomore Shae Siegert smacked a grand slam home run, while senior Jayden Noonan had a two-run homer and senior Amber Udelhoven a three-run triple.

The Chieftains extended their lead to 18-1 with seven runs in the top of the fourth inning, getting RBI singles from Amanda Rolling and Amber Udelhoven, along with another grand slam home run from Shae Siegert. Kylie Reuter also had an RBI triple in the inning.

Of Potosi’s 10 hits, Amber Udelhoven and Shae Siegert each had three, Siegert with eight RBIs and two runs scored, Udelhoven with four runs scored and four RBIs.

Jadyn Noonan finished the game with two RBIs, while Amanda Roling and Kylie Reuter each had one.

In the pitching circle, Jayden Noonan allowed just one earned run off five hits, while striking out three River Ridge batters and walking one.

On the following Thursday night, the Chieftains used eight hits and overcame four errors to collect a 7-3 victory over visiting Black Hawk.

After giving up two runs in the top of the second inning and one more in the fourth, Potosi found itself trailing 3-0 after four innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Chieftains scored their first run when Amanda Rolling scored on a ground ball hit by Amber Udelhoven.

They then scored six more in the bottom of the sixth, on a two-run single by Jadyn Noonan and RBI singles by Jessica Noonan and Avarie Breitsprecker.

Amber Udelhoven finished the game going 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs, while Jadyn Noonan had two RBIs and Jessica Noonan and Breitsprecker each with one.

In the pitching circle, Noonan limited the Warriors to three unearned runs off four hits, while striking out 10 batters and walking none.

A 12-6 victory over visiting Benton/Shullsburg last Friday night improved coach Keene’s squad to 8-3 in league play and 10-8 overall.

The Chieftains started Friday night’s contest off with five runs in the bottom of the first inning, then adding three more in the second, two in the third and then two more in the fifth.

Finishing the game with 11 hits, the Chieftains got three from Amber Udelhoven, and two from Jadyn Noonan, Kylie Reuter and Hannah Nusbaum.

Nusbaum also had three RBIs that included a single in the first inning and a two-run homer in the second.

Jadyn Noonan had two RBIs on two singles, while Jessica Noonan had two RBIs on a single in the first inning.

Picking up the win in the pitching circle was Jadyn Noonan, who in seven innings allowed six unearned runs off five hits, while striking out nine batters and walking two.

Following this past Tuesday night’s road game at Belmont, the Chieftains will travel to Barneveld on Thursday night.
